Since 1988, Naomi has had an unending commitment to advocate in different capacities for refugee rights. Her accomplishments include:
- Chairperson of the Refugee Lawyers Group, British Columbia Canadian Bar Association
(Immigration Section) for three consecutive terms. The Group was recipient of the 2003/2004 Mosaic Human Rights Award
- Lived and worked in overseas refugee camps
- Speaks regularly in the community, at law conferences, at
non-governmental organizations and with the media on refugee issues
- Trained Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) officers
- Drafts submissions on proposed national refugee policies
- Serves on the British Columbia Canadian Bar Association Legal Aid Liasion Committee
- Been Chairperson of the British Columbia Bar Association Enforcement Committee (Immigration Section)
- Serves on the Advisory Board for the Canadian Counsel for Refugees Trafficking of Women Committee, Gender Core Group
- Active member and revolving Chairperson for the Vancouver Refugee Council
- Started the York University WUSC student refugee sponsorship programme
- Established information sharing networks between refugee researchers and practitioners at the York University Centre for Refugee Studies
